Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has capped off a remarkable year on the pitch with by making the five man shortlist for the 2018 European Golden Boy Award. The 20-year-old has come on leaps and bounds this year, playing in a Champions League final for Liverpool and also representing his country in a World Cup as England made the semi-finals in Russia.

The other five nominees for the prestigious award are Justin Kluivert, son of the legendary Patrick, currently playing for Roma as a winger. Also in contention is Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax, a central defender who has shot to fame in recent months and could be in line for a big money move to Barcelona in 2019 as he continues to draw attention from top clubs all over Europe.

Real Madrid youngster Vinicius Jr. is also up for the award having made his debut and scored his first goal for the European champions at the tender age of 18. Finally, AC Milan’s Patrick Cutrone has established himself as a first team forward for the Italian giants at 20-years-old with three goals this season.

It looks to be a straight battle between Alexander-Arnold and De Ligt for this award and with the previous winner’s list including names such as Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero and Paul Pogba, the man who picks up this award could have a huge future ahead of him. Kylian Mbappe picked up the award this time last year after a simply remarkable season for club and country.
