Bayern Munich completed a league and cup double by winning the DFB Cup with a 3-0 victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. We rounds up the reactions following Bayern’s 19th cup triumph…
Nico Kovac (Bayern coach): “Obviously I’m delighted. Leipzig made life very difficult for us and didn’t allow us many chances. As the match wore on we found better solutions. I’d particularly like to congratulate Manuel Neuer. His performance was sensational.”
Manuel Neuer (Bayern goalkeeper and captain): “I was highly motivated to play again. It was a close run thing to be ready just in time for the final. The way it went for me and us: The script couldn’t have been better written. Robben and Ribery have been important Bayern players for years, without them we wouldn’t have been able to win this title today.”
Robert Lewandowski (Bayern striker): “We played really well and deserved to win. I’m really happy to have won the trophy again.”
Peter Gulasci (Leipzig goalkeeper): “Of course we are very disappointed. We gave everything. In the first 30 minutes we played a really good game; we were aggressive. But we should have used our chances.
“It was our first final. This is not easy to cope with. It will take a few days now. What our fans achieved and how they pushed us – fantastic! All in all, we can be very proud of ourselves.”
Yussuf Poulsen (Leipzig striker):“We didn’t make the most of our chances in the first half and then we conceded against the run of play. Bayern took advantage of their opportunities, we didn’t. It’s difficult to be proud of yourself, especially when you’ve just lost a final. But I’m sure we’ll feel proud at some point.”
Ralf Rangnick (Leipzig coach):“We’ve very disappointed because we shouldn’t have lost the game. We were the dominant side in the first 30 minutes, but weren’t able to take the lead. Then we conceded a goal and our heads dropped a bit. We created three clear-cut chances, but we didn’t convert any of them and that makes things tough against Bayern. It was an evenly balanced game for the most part, which makes the loss all the harder.”
